Thursday morning in America, and the nation tries to go about its normal business.

There’s an eerie quiet in my office here at ETS this morning. Some people look like they’re about to cry at any moment. The phones, usually ringing off the hook with scholarship recipients, are nearly silent.

Just as I was worrying about friends the other day, today attention is turned to whether or not our contacts at several scholarship funds got out OK. Getting a phone call through to NYC is still impossible.

The tragedy is anything but a taboo subject. Far from it – it seems to work its way into every topic of conversation, including why scholarship checks aren’t getting to their destinations in time. My bosses are wondering if and how they’re going to go to a convention next week.

If, like me, you’re not able to give blood, I suggest a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The Amazon Honor System has set up a page to make donations simple.

My post below was my inital reaction (delayed a bit due to spordic web availability) to today’s horrific events in New York and Washington. I’m still trying to confirm that all of my friends in the city are OK. (If you’re in the city, and you read this, please send me an IM at MiltyD or an e-mail at critic@m-dnovember.com and let me know that you’re alright…)

I’m still trying to take all this in.

Open Question:

I’m thinking that after 5 years, it’s time for a new computer. The question is, do I stay with a Mac (I’ve been using Macs at home/school since I was 13), or cross over to the “dark side” and purchase a Windows machine (which I’ve been using at work ever since I was old enough to work)?

Eh.

Courtesy of those suckers…I mean, our friends…at Miramax and ET, here is the entire “Good Will Hunting II” scene from “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”. Feel free to play this at work – ET has removed the naughty words for you.
