This item from The Digital Bits:

Guess it wouldn’t be the holiday season without a problem on a major studio DVD release. Universal’s Back to the Future Trilogy DVD set contains all three films on disc, as you know. But what you may not know is that the widescreenversions of Back to the Future 2 & 3 on the set are mis-framed (badly or not depending on who you ask). But word is Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale aren’t happy, and so Universal is going to be addressing the issue in the new year with replacement discs for those who want them. The corrected discs will be available in late February – call (888) 703-0010 for all the details.

I’m not even going to comment on the fact that Universal is knowingly selling mis-produced discs to make its holiday sales numbers, hoping that most of you will never notice the problem. The studio has decided, in its wisdom, to stop providing review copies of its new titles to many (if not all) review publications. So if you’re wondering why there are so few reviews of the set online and in print, it’s ’cause Universal apparently wants it that way. For our part here at The Digital Bits, we will no longer be reviewing ANY Universal DVD product until they change this policy.

Anyway, if you’re a fan of Back to the Future, and you haven’t picked up the set yet, buyer beware. Stay tuned…

Fan-fucking-tastic. Well, if you’re like me, and you’ve already purchased this long-awaited set (either for yourself or a loved one), keep that phone number handy…

Oh, Universal? [EXPLETIVE DELETED], you stupid [EXPLETIVE DELETED] [EXPLETIVE DELETED] [EXPLETIVE DELETED] !!!!

Also, check out this article on BBC News Online about the huge Trek exhibit in London…I may have to check this out…

A few of the old Stagedoor gang got together last Wednesday night in the city. Here’s a couple of photos.

Everyone loves the holiday season, or so many people would lead us to believe. Those people, tho, would be full of shite.

I don’t like the holiday season. I don’t have anything against any one holiday, and (surprise) it’s not because I’m a “Jew at Christmas”. No. The holidays, you see, are about being around ‘loved ones’, or, taken more literally, your significant other. There’s one problem with that – I don’t have a significant other. Never have, actually. Probably never will. So every year, when the holidays roll around, I get to look at all the trappings of the season, and the happy couples kissing under the mistletoe, & kissing on Christmas Eve, & kissing on New Year’s Eve, and I remember just how alone I am in this world. After 27 years, it starts to take its toll.

In the past, if I’ve ever felt overly uncomfortable, I would make some weak excuse and remove myself from a “holiday situation”. Sure, it means I’d be sitting alone in my room all night, but at least I could deal with my issues in my own way. This year, tho, not only am I surrounded by couples (living with one, best friends with another), but within my own apartment I’m going to be surrounded by the crap that makes me want to hate this time of year. Normally, I could deal with either of those issues individually. But I am having a little trouble (ok, more than a little trouble) dealing with both of the same time. So if I seem a little bitter/angry/upset/emotional/unable to deal, or you hear what you’d swear is sobbing coming from my room, you know why.

It’s official. “Firefly”, the endearing space western series from Buffy creator Joss Whedon, has been cancelled.

I feel a bit guilty about this, since I really liked the show, but because of it’s “Friday at 8” timeslot, I would never remember it was on. Usually I’d be out at dinner or the movies, and I’d forget to program the TiVo. (I had meant to set a season pass ages ago…but I got distracted by something shiny.) So now it’s gone. Hopefully UPN or the WB will pick up the show and give it a proper timeslot and some publicity beyond the summer before the premiere. (It also proves that FOX doesn’t know crap about marketing to Joss’ audience.)

So, I got this Earthlink account. I’ve had it ever since Darren, Bry and I lived in New Brunswick about 5 years ago. After I had moved back home and my parents got a cable modem, I held on to the Earthlink account, in case I ever went on the road with my laptop. But since then, I haven’t bothered to check that e-mail account, since I’ve always had people send mail to my iName, and later to my m-dnovember.com e-mail addresses.

So tonight, on a lark, I decide to log into Earthlink’s WebMail facility and see how that account was doing. The mailbox had reached it’s 10mb limit. The mailbox contained something in the neighborhood of 1000 new messages. All of the messages – all 10mb worth – were unsolicited spam.

Thanks, Earthlink.

From The New York Times, the story of an author desparate for exposure…and how the Giant Corporate Overlord sticks it to the little guy. Kinda.

Well, here’s a shock…
