It’s become almost ritual for me to check other people’s blogs while I’m on lunch at work – I mean, if I have to be chained to my desk while eating, what else am I going to do? Anyway, recently ETS installed some kind of content filtering software. Like most filters, it’s supposed to prevent access to web sites with “questionable” material. Apparently Erica, Leia, and Amanda all qualify, but (interestingly) not Tina. Hmm.

But apparently, the Governator doesn’t think so. I mean, come on – a bandolier! That’s funny stuff!

Sure, it has a lot to do with the four years I worked there as a sound technician. But it’s stuff like this, combined with what I know about the way those roller coasters are put together, that scare the crap out of me. For instance:

-The “Viper” coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure was opened incomplete. A section of the ride was not assembled and the design modified (on site, I think) so that the ride would open on schedule. Also, at least in its first few years in operation, bolts regularly shook loose from the ride.
-The brakes on “Batman & Robin: The Chiller” got so hot at the end of a run that special mist machines had to be installed (after construction of the ride!) to prevent the brakes from overheating and failing. The misters didn’t prove to be effective, and the ride was closed for nearly a full year while modifications were made to the design.

I actually enjoy coasters. In my more naive years, I loved the original Batman coaster. But I’ll never ride one at a Six Flags park again – as long as I can help it.

Normally, I can’t say enough good things about Apple Computer, the folks who brought us the iPod. But I’m really kinda pissed at them right now – they’ve published an update to the iPod that won’t actually update my iPod. (And it’s not just me – apparently many 1st and 2nd generation iPod users are reporting the same problem I’m experiencing.) And since the update is required to sync to the new update to iTunes…well, all I’m going to say is that I have faith that Apple will fix this, because right now, my iPod is a very sophisticated paperweight.

*pissed*

Here’s pictures from the joyous union of Bry & Lyn.

Still working on the other photos. Have patience.

Alright. I’ve been home for nearly a week, and I keep talking about a wrap-up of the Big Road Trip. And, as you can see, that hasn’t so much happened. All I’m going to say is that it’s been a very long and complicated week.

With that said, the recap still isn’t ready. But in the interim, here’s link love to some of my new friends in DFW:

Leia – Random Thoughts from a Large Head
Tina – The Sound and Fury
Amanda – Evaporated
Erica – ericalucci.com

More links as I track them down/stumble upon them!

I’m still working on the pictures from the Road Trip and DFW, but in the meantime, to whet your whistle, here’s a video clip of Bry rocking out.

Please bear in mind that this video was shot using my Canon Powershot S330, and the video quality isn’t the best.

Mad-Lib Proverb of the Day: “Too many cooks shit the wang.”

At 8:20pm tonight, I pulled into Darren’s driveway and removed the key from the ignition of my Ford Explorer, officially ending the Big Road Trip. I wish I had a lot to report, but like yesterday, today was just about making it back to Jersey so we can both get back to work in the morning. We passed the time with the afforementioned Mad-Libs and the Kevin Bacon game (I managed to connect Daffy Duck to Alec Guinness). In DE, we ended up behind a truck a “Da Wang” bumper sticker. New Jersey has a really lame “Welcome to” sign. That’s really about it. I’m quite sleepy now, so that wrap-up will have to wait another day. Pictures are forthcoming as well, but again, give me time. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 pictures to sort through. For now, though, I’m going to sleep in my own bed for the first time in two weeks.

(I never thought I’d actually get to use that…)

The title pretty much sums up the day. Darren and I took one last look around DFW (you know, to see if we forgot anything) at about 8:30 this morning, and set out due east. Except for the occasional stops for food, gas, and el baƱo, we’ve been in the truck all day. We didn’t pull into our hotel in Knoxville until shortly before Midnight (eastern – DAMN YOU TIMEZINE LINE!). Nothing terribly exciting to report.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back to wrap this whole thing up. Presuming, of course, I can stay away from my bed that long. (Oh, I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed again!) Nite!
