Good sense and public outrage prevail!
IOC awards gold to Canadian pair
The Russian coaches, interviewed after the press conference, were quoted as saying, “Yeah, well…we got our medals first! And they’re shiner!”
I’m personally just glad to see that logic won out in all this. (Although I imagine a healthy dose of international outrage didn’t hurt either.) I saw the competition, and I saw the same replays that the judges had access to. Jamie and David just flat out skated a cleaner performance. I’m no figure skating judge (if I were, I wouldn’t want to be one right now), but I recognize a mistake when I see it and the Russians made a big one, which should have been an .5 deduction. Those are the facts. So congratulations to Jamie and David, eh!
