Oh, yeah. You should be commenting more. You DO know about the comment system, right? So comment more. I want to know you’re out there…
Me again. I know I said that I’d be posting more, and that I was going to be trying to get things around here back to “normal” (such at it is), but lately I just haven’t found a lot of things worth posting about. There’s not much point to re-posting stuff about the tragedy, since it’s all over the net. Well, I guess a brief Weekend Update is in order…
Friday evening, I learned a valuable lesson, and that lesson is “All traffic reporters are morons.” Normally I can make it to NYC from my house in about an hour. Friday night, it took me THREE hours. Obviously, the traffic reporter who said there was a “40 minute delay” at the Lincoln Tunnel was watching a one-legged man WALK the length of the Viaduct, because I sure as hell was sitting in my car for more than 40 minutes. Anyway, long story short, I had a production meeting for “Seven Keys”. The combined time of the meeting and my trip home was still less than my drive in.
Saturday was my eye-doctor’s appointment. This was fun for the simple reason that it’s the one time every year when I get my eyes dilated and they get all big like on an anime character. Sadly, I was not instantly a master of Kung-Fu.
Sunday – auditions for “Seven Keys” The turnout was light, but I’m sure we’ll scrounge up all the people we need. (BTW – commute normal.)
And there you have it. Oh – while I’m thinking about it, I encourage everyone to check out at least one episode of “Enterprise” and “Alias”. Both are excellent new series.
You know, I don’t care much for Harry Potter, but even I wouldn’t go this far…

Hi there. It’s about one week since my last post, and a little over one week since the horrific attacks on the US. I’ve spent the better part of the last few days trying to get my life back to some kind of “normal” state. But every time I pick up a newspaper, or turn on the television, or read any (ANY) site on the web, I’m reminded of how helpless, outraged, angry and saddened we’ve all been over the last week. Maybe everyone is right – maybe there isn’t a “normal” any more. Or maybe, as George Carlin might say, maybe it’s simply “normal minus WTC”. I dunno.
I read a piece over at TVBarn.com saying that ABC News has banned further airings of the video showing the planes hitting the WTC. I happen to agree with this decision. The issue can be broached at this point without forcing those grieving to relive the event over and over again.
Unless something major breaks, this will be my last post about the tragedy for a while. (Also, you’ll be spared any additional entries starting with “XXX morning in America”.)
Friday morning in America.
A steady rain falls over the New York metro area. It’s a double edged sword – the rain will help clear the air, but it will also make rescue and recovery efforts more difficult. It may also destabilize more buildings.
I prefer to take the literary tack here – way back in Mrs. Savedoff’s 9th Grade Humanities English class, we were taught that water was a literary symbol of rebirth – characters who undergo great torment are somehow renewed by a falling rain, bathing in a river, etc. Maybe this rain is New York’s rebirth, the city emerging from the water stronger and more resiliant than it was at the beginning of the week.
Harlan had an excellent idea with regard to putting together a CD, with nearly all money made going to the relief effort. He’s taking song suggestions.
Thursday morning in America, and the nation tries to go about its normal business.
There’s an eerie quiet in my office here at ETS this morning. Some people look like they’re about to cry at any moment. The phones, usually ringing off the hook with scholarship recipients, are nearly silent.
Just as I was worrying about friends the other day, today attention is turned to whether or not our contacts at several scholarship funds got out OK. Getting a phone call through to NYC is still impossible.
The tragedy is anything but a taboo subject. Far from it – it seems to work its way into every topic of conversation, including why scholarship checks aren’t getting to their destinations in time. My bosses are wondering if and how they’re going to go to a convention next week.
