Well, this past weekend turned out a lot better than I had thought it would. I spent two outstanding evenings with family and friends, got some personal business done, hooked up a new scanner (photo galleries coming soon!), and found out that I’m actually getting a tax refund this year. Now, if only my luck with the job market would turn around…

I just returned form an absolutely lovely Passover sader at my Aunt Karen’s house. It was a very informal evening, and I think everyone there had a good time. All of my cousins were there, and in talking to some of them, I realized that I really don’t know them at all. Maybe it’s a consequence of growing up so far apart – they’ve lived in Westchester (or Spring Valley, or wherever) doing their own thing, I’ve been here in NJ (or in the Catskills, or in Syracuse) doing my own thing. It’s no one’s fault, really. But I really wish I had gotten to know them better.

Site Update (sort of):
Well, after tinkering around with Dreamweaver and Fireworks last night, it looks like I may have some photographs to display for all you fine people sooner rather than later. The only thing is picking which photos to scan…and then scanning them, and touching them up, and…well, you get the idea.

Zap2it.com: Reporters Fooled by Carey Prank
…and so was I. Apparently the whole thing was an April Fools prank by the clever folks at Improv Review. In a way, I’m a bit relieved, since, as I commented earlier, Drew Carey can’t improv his way out of a paper bag. But an all-improv SNL is still an interesting idea.

Stuck in My Head:
This is going to sound odd, but the other night, Comedy Central ran a “Best of Eddie Murphy” SNL special. And whenever I see that, one thing keeps getting stuck in my head – the Stevie Wonder/Frank Sinatra version of “Ebony & Ivory”, performed by Murphy and Joe “I was funny for 15 minutes” Piscopo.

Oh, poopie.
OK – looks like I missed a few things last night when I migrated this page from BlogVoices to Dotcomments.

The “Random Thoughts” link still takes you to the older .html/BlogVoices version of this page. For the moment, you can get around that just by re-entering www.m-dnovember.com on your address line. I will fix the link when I get home.

If anyone had just the blog page (www.m-dnovember.com/blog.html) saved as a bookmark, you’ll need to update that to (www.m-dnovember.com/blog.php) or simply (www.m-dnovember.com). I will be removing the old .html versions of this page when I get home tonight, and your bookmarks will become invalid otherwise.

I’m open to suggestion as far as a color scheme for the comment pages.

Let me know if I missed anything…

Well, my hat is off to Dan. Dotcomments (although I still say DanVoices is a better name) is, after one false start due to some stupidity on my part, working like a charm.

The one downside is that any old comments are not present. That’s not to say that they’re gone entirely – they’re preserved in the BlogVoices archive, but only accessable to me.

The new comment engine works pretty much the same way BlogVoices did, with the added advantage that you don’t have to wait forever for the page to load. Please – comment away.

The other change here is that the Random Thoughts page (you’re looking at it now – it’s the blog…) is now the front page for m-dnovember.com. (Personally, I got sick of looking at that “welcome” message.)

Dotcomments, or, as we like to call it, DanVoices
Unlike Greymatter, which I think you have to have a degree in nuclear physics (or be Harlan or Rod) to master, I think I’m going to give Dan’s solution a try. It looks simple enough, even for me…

Watched “Mallrats” last night. While I can see how some movie critics wouldn’t like the film, and I can see how Universal tried to get Kevin Smith to make the film too much like “Animal House”, I still thought it was hysterical. Maybe it was just having grown up in that “Jersey Mall Culture” Smith managed to capture so perfectly. Maybe it was seeing Jay and Silent Bob kick the crap out a mall Easter Bunny. I dunno.

One question, though – and I guess this is better asked of whoever scouted locations for the film as opposed to Smith himself, but I just have to ask it…

Minnesota? They had to go all the way to Minnesota to find a suitable mall to use for the film? Drive in any direction from the center of Red Bank, NJ, and within 30 minutes you’ll hit a major shopping mall (Freehold Raceway Mall, Woodbridge Center, Monmouth Mall, etc.).

I knew something didn’t feel quite right about the locations when the film started, and there’s my reason.

I mean, Minnefreakin’sota? They didn’t even bother to change the name on the mall to something more Jersey-centric than “Eden Prairie Center”…

Zap2It.com: Drew Carey Hosts All-Improv ‘SNL’
Drew – I hate to break this to you, but speaking as someone who has done it in the past, YOU’RE NOT VERY GOOD AT IMPROV!!! For everyone’s sake, try to minimize the number of sketches you’re in, and let the SNL cast (and hopefully some Whose Line players) shine…
